France is going to Linux

Following the recent directives issued by the Prime Minister—notably the circulars regarding digital public procurement and the widespread adoption of the “Visio” videoconferencing tool—the seminar established a clear objective: to reduce the State’s non-European digital dependencies.

Several initial concrete steps already illustrate this ambition:

  • Regarding the evolution of workstations, DINUM has announced its departure from Windows in favor of Linux-based operating systems.
  • Regarding the migration to sovereign solutions, the National Health Insurance Fund announced a few days ago the migration of its 80,000 employees to tools within the inter-ministerial digital framework (Tchap, Visio, and FranceTransfert for document transfers).
  • Last month, the Government announced the migration of the health data platform to a trusted solution by the end of 2026.
