The Boring Internet

Some optimism as a counterweight to, well, everything.

Time to get cozy and read through more of my TCP/IP book. It’s hard to get more load bearing than that hehehe

Very nice essay. Some of us did experience the Internet before GUIs and Mouses; and we recognize as we still do. Even before the HTTP protocol; before IMAP.

The case could be made for an “Application” layer, to accommodate the web browser[s] which have since inception been striving to become the one User Interface application which provides or centralizes the other protocols.

I’m glad to see the essay acknowledge BGP. … The people who work in that zone are fewer and more powerful than those who manage DNS. To these, and the hardware beneath/behind them, all must bow.

Could a single rogue malicious replicator AI choke the physical system? Could such a thing be prevented? stopped? destroyed once unleashed?

There’s another topic here started this morning for these questions.
(and I’m not going to try to be savvy enough to link it into this post; it probably needed a different title anyway ;-}
